Born into a musical family, Kevin began to explore guitar and piano as a pre-schooler. Spending many hours imitating and playing songs from a diverse household record collection, he learned the basics of ear training and transcribing, while developing an appreciation of all styles of music. He began performing with his first band in middle school and has played professionally as a guitarist and bassist in numerous bands, recording sessions, and television/radio appearances. His formal study began with jazz guitarist, Charlie Wood at age 15, and at 17 was given his first opportunity to teach at Wood's studio in Greenville, S.C. Inspired by Wood's skill as a player and teacher, Kevin studied studio music and jazz at the University of Miami while teaching and playing part-time. He also studied privately with jazz legend, Joe Diorio, and was privileged to have jammed with Bruce Hornsby, Randy Johnston, and Carmen and Curtis Lundy while in college. Kevin moved to Charlotte in the fall of 1988 and joined the staff at the Guitar Workshop, where he has been teaching guitar and bass. He continues to perform, most recently with "Mick and the Ultras", a classic rock/blues band fronted by drummer and "voice of the Panthers", Mick Mixon.
